Semiochemicals
Chemicals used to transmit chemical odors are called Semiochemicals, specifically known as pheromones. Among them, sex pheromones are commonly used.
Aggregating Pheromones
These chemicals are secreted to induce cluster behaviour among certain insects, such as cockroaches or beetles.
They release aggregating pheromones to attract companions and facilitate communal inhabitation.
Sex Pheromones
By emitting specific scents, insects transmit messages related to mating to achieve their breeding purposes. For instance, when a female moth intends to attract male moths, she secretes sex pheromones that draw in male moths, a phenomenon observed in numerous moth species, beetles, and Hemiptera.
